Creeping
My husband walks the dog every morning. I walk her at night, once around 7 pm and again closer to 10 pm. Last night, I was almost done my show when the dog showed that she needed to go out. So my husband offered to take out instead. All of the sudden, I heard yelling. I thought that maybe the neighbour’s dog had wandered over. Then, I swore I heard him say, “Get out of here, coyote!”
There was a coyote standing beside the trampoline. It ran after it was yelled out but stopped and looked back. He had to yell at it again before it took off for good.
Then, while I was on Facebook, my neighbour posted that they have a badger living in their driveway.
We always knew coyotes and other critters were around here. We could hear the coyotes, way off in the distance, but I never considered that they could come this close to the house. I have a four pound dog and two children who depend on me and my husband to keep them safe. Looks like I’m going to have to take some precautions from now on.
To be fair, it could have been a one time thing. A coyote just happened to be passing by when he just happened to take the dog out. And really, it should have been me. It was my turn to take her out. Maybe just a night of coincidences. However, my husband was talking to some people who are big hunters and they all said that the coyotes are getting bolder lately, desperate. Which makes them dangerous. And as for our badger friend, they are always dangerous.
So, from now on, lights on all the time, and now I’m carrying a knife. A filet knife because it has a stealth and I won’t end up cutting myself. More likely than not, I’ll never have to use it but it’s better to be safe than sorry.
