First Day of School

It has arrived. The First Day of School. And I must say, it went better than I thought. When Abby woke up, she said she didn't want to go - she wasn't ready. So we got her to have some breakfast. Then we got her to get dressed. Then we got her to brush her hair. Then I told her I wanted to take some pictures so I gave her her backpack. Then something happened. Something switched. Like Frosty with his hat, she put on her backpack and came to life. She wasn't afraid anymore. She was excited. I got a couple pictures and I packed up Isabelle in her stroller and we walked to school. We found her room and her hook where she hangs up her backpack. Then she found her name tag at her table and sat down. I said goodbye and she started to grab me and told me not to leave. I told her that I had to or the teacher couldn't start all the fun things. And I'd only be a few houses away. And I'd pick her up for lunch. It took a few minutes of convincing but she seemed okay with staying at school and my leaving. There were no tears. Well, until I got home! I walked up the driveway and suddenly had to cry. I think it was all the anxious energy leaving, or the relief that it went so smoothly.

I knew I would be feeling strange today and probably wander around aumlessly so I planned to go grocery shopping with Isabelle. I was asked to make the cinnamon buns for Family Camp so I needed some more aluminum pans. We got all our grocery shopping done and put away by 10:00. So I went around and made beds. I found myself in Abby's room just sitting on her bed, playing on my phone while Isabelle wandered around playing with books as toys. I finally snapped out of it and came to the living room. I know I have a lot of housework to do. But for now, I think I'll just sit here and snuggle with my only remaining baby.
