Here We Stand

I guess I can now officially say it. We got the house in Estevan. Whew! I know a lot of you don't know the details, and frankly this post would get way too long so I'll spare you. Let's just say it's been the most stressful 5 days in my life. The worst part of it is our timing.

While we were in Estevan, the house wasn't technically for sale yet. But once it was, we made an offer. The realtor still needed to officially list it so he couldn't accept our offer right away but he did take it and once it was listed, we put in the offer. We drove back to Flin Flon on Friday and got the call that he needed to fax some papers to us. We don't have a fax machine so we went to the library and waited there for the fax to come. It was a counter offer. But it was fair and reasonable so we accepted it and sent the fax away. We were finished at 4:55pm - 5 minutes before the library closed. (Did I mention this was the Friday before a long weekend? We were two of the few people cursing the long weekend!!) We had just enough time to run home and call the bank (it's an hour behind there - thankfully). The person we were working with before has gone for holidays so we get a new person who is unfamiliar with our file now in charge of whether or not we can get the house. She tells us something very different from the first person. Something not good. Something very not good. Something that made the weekend seem extra long. Oh, did I mention that by the time we got off the phone with the bank, it was 5:00pm their time on the Friday before a long weekend? Yeesh, what is our problem, why can't we ever do anything normal!

Well, the weekend dragged on and finally it was Tuesday. We did some banking and some stuff to get the vehicles ready to move them and went back to the library for another round of faxing. Then it was back home to talk to the bank again. This time she was even more apprehensive. I probably don't need to tell you how we were feeling. Our perfect house, the house we got for an extremely reasonable price, is slipping away because of rigid policies that no one can seem to get through. But at the 11th hour, I guess that was today, the bank phone and the first words out of her mouth, "Congratulations, you own a house in Estevan!" I managed to get off the phone before I started to cry. Yeesh, I'm getting all choked up now. So now it's just the little details to work out. But right now I think I can do anything...like sell a house in Flin Flon!

I bet you're thinking, "Wasn't she going to spare us the details?" The sad part is, I did.
