Hot Buns!!

Our family goes through bread like crazy! So I decided it was time to start baking buns. When I was growing up, my mom always made buns and there was nothing like coming home for lunch and walking into a house filled with the amazing scent of freshly baked buns!! This is only my second attempt at the feat. The recipe I have is my mom's recipe cut in half. The first time I made it, I cut it in half again (the full recipe calls for 22 cups of flour!). They were white on top and black on the bottom. But after you cut the bottoms off, they tasted fine. This time I made the recipe as written. I got 40 buns. Here is my journey through pictures....

The buns rising on the table. So much of making buns is sitting around watching them rise. My buns came out a bit dense so maybe I should've had a bit more patience in this area!

The dough ball rising. I found it difficult to get nice even balls. My mom were always so smooth and perfect. By the end of the third pan, I think I got the idea.

The finished product. They ended up looking more like biscuits. I think I needed to do a bit more kneading in order to have that "bun" look. Oh well, they taste fine and I can only improve. At least this time the bottoms are only a dark brown and not black!

My favourite...fresh buns with margarine melted on top!

Abby liked them too. She called them crunchy. But she eats them anyway. And that's high praise.
