Orientated

Today was the day. Abby's kindergarten orientation. Mark managed to find someone to cover him at work so he was able to join us. We walked to the school.  Abby was a little reluctant to go through the doors but we reminded her that this was her school and she was fine. We met with the principal first. Abby was a little shy at first but soon started talking. The principal was very nice. Then we went down to see the kindergarten room.  Again, Abby was hesitant to go in but we assured her that we were going in too so she was fine. I stayed with her while she being evaluated while Mark talked with the teacher. They discussed any concerns we had and other things. Abby did really well. She counted perfectly and said her colours. She drew a picture of a giraffe and wrote her name. She was too shy to sing her ABCs but that's okay. She got a little bored by the end and wanted to play but the teachers distracted her pretty easy. Then it was off to talk to the speech pathologist. There wasn't too much I didn't know there. She needs a bit of work. She will be re-evaluated once school starts to see how she has progressed over summer. And once she starts school and hears all the other kids, things might fall into line anyway. I'm not too worried about it. I know she has some speech issues but nothing that a bit of help can't fix. I was very pleased with how she did overall. And I am greatly relieved about her starting kindergarten in the fall. It's still going to be quite the transition but I'm more confident in her ability to handle it. How I will handle it is another question!!

We went home for lunch and there was some time so we drove to the park and played for awhile. It was time to go to the library and Abby was doing her best at dragging it out so I pulled out my secret weapon. I looked at her, made sure she saw me, took out a lollipop and said I'm leaving. She followed me right to the car no problem. There were a couple other parents at the park and I heard a few giggles over my method but I didn't care. I got her to leave with no yelling, fighting or tears. I don't suggest doing it every time but it sure works when you just don't feel like fighting. We had a good time at the library but I was getting tired! When we got home, Isabelle went down for a 3.5 hour nap and Abby was fairly calm. She's dancing around the living room right now but I'm sure she'll crash once she goes to bed. I know I will. Last night I was fast asleep by 10:30 when Isabelle woke me up! I'm such a cool mom!

Big news of the day/week/year:
The boat we have been planning and saving and waiting for for the last 3 or so years has finally arrived. We're going to pick her up on Saturday. I don't think Mark's feet have touched the ground since he got the news on Tuesday. There is a short orientation where they take you though the entire boat but then she's all ours!! This is going to be an awesome summer!!
