Almost Famous
I’ve always said that I am way too boring to get any fancy diseases. Nothing that exciting could ever happen to me. So when all this pandemic stuff started I wasn’t too worried because there was no chance I was in any harm. Plus, where I live there have been no cases, ever. Then I developed a sore throat. No, not sore, swollen. And it wouldn’t go away. It would swell up making it very uncomfortable - it felt like I was wearing a scarf that was too tight or like a very weak person was trying to strangle me. But it also put pressure up my jaw and into my ears. Last week I had a slight fever and my husband told me to call the healthline. I put it off because, well, I didn’t want to. Then Tuesday rolled around and I felt worse. I went into work but felt pretty crappy so I broke down and called the healthline. Sure enough, if you tell them that you have a swollen throat and a slight fever they send you to the Covid assessment centre where you have to get tested. But I have to say, the whole experience was pretty slick.
I called the healthline around 12:30. By 12:50, I got through the talk the nurse. By 1:00 she had told me that unneeded time isolate and that Public Health would be falling me within 24 hours to get tested. I went in and told my bosses and drove home. I got home around 1:30 and I wasn’t even out of my garage when I got the call from Public Health. They said I could come in at 2:00 for my test. I parked in the parking lot and a nurse came out to give me my mask. I was the only person there. I washed my hands when they asked me too, stood behind the lines, answered their questions and got my vitals taken. The worse part was the swabs up both nostrils and the back of my throat. It actually sounds worse than it was. Then the doctor told me I have laryngitis but I’m not allowed back to work until I get my test back. The nurse said that it should take 3-4 days but lately it’s been 1-2 days. I was out of there by 2:30. got a prescription for antibiotics and called work to tell them what was going on. I stayed home from work the next day and sat around feeling ridiculous. Just before 4:00, Public Health called to tell me that my result was negative. And to think I was thisclose to being the first person in the area to test positive!
So through all that, I was glad to get a negative result but still kinda bummed because despite taking the antibiotics, my throat is still swollen. I don’t feel as crappy so I guess that’s an improvement. At least it’s not the Covid!
On a happier note, I’ve brought out the camera the last few days. Here’s what I got.
