A Lesson In Patience

One of the great things about living on an acreage is all the wildlife.  Every spring I get to do my annual #nestwatch.  This year started off pretty disappointingly.  The robin’s nest under the back deck wasn’t rebuilt.  This would have been it’s third year.  Instead, they moved it over closer to the corner of the deck.  And then never finished it.  It is basically a ring with no bottom.

The robin’s nest under front deck was finally completed and there was one egg.  However, not long after, it was broken open.  It stayed like that for awhile before the robin (I assume) finally cleaned it out.  That gave me hope that maybe she would try again.  But for the longest time I couldn’t see anything when I put my phone camera through the slots in the deck.  Last night I decided to look again. I couldn’t see any eggs but there was a robin perched on the top of a tree that was squawking at me the entire time.  I grabbed my camera and decided to get a better look under the deck. Sure enough...

I really hope this egg does better than the last one.  I’m going to try my best to leave it alone but I doubt I’ll have much luck with that. I just can’t seem to stay away.

Hopefully I’ll have more nests to watch yet.
