Not Worth It

Ever try and save a couple bucks? Maybe you buy store brand pop or generic toilet paper. But then you realize the store brand pop doesn't taste very good and the toilet paper just doesn't do the job. Sometimes it just pays to pay. That's what seems to happen when we cheap out on hotels. The last time we went to Alberta, we came home through Medicine Hat. We found a name brand hotel that has a good reputation...and a cheap price. Yep, cheap, that's what we got. And vowed to pay more to get more next time. Well, it's next time and we're looking at hotels to stay at on our next trip to Alberta. We need a place in Saskatoon and though we'd try out Hotwire. It seemed good, low prices for hotel rooms. The one drawback was that it doesn't tell you what hotel you are getting until you book it and you can't undo. But there is a rating system and they tell you about the hotel. So we found one about $50 cheaper than what we would normally pay and it is a 3 star hotel. So we booked. Turns out it's a crap hole. Okay, maybe not a crap hole but less than 3 stars. And we can't undo. We call the credit card company to see if we can cancel, they can't help. So I call the hotel and cancel there. So a morning of running around in order to save $50. Not worth it.

I agree. Sometimes, it's just not worth it. I've started just paying the little bit extra

There's a website called betterbidding.com that we use to check on hotels for hotwire and priceline. We've booked with priceline a few times and we use the website to have a better idea of what hotel we might get.
