Risky Business
So a couple days ago, it was Saturday actually. I know this because Mark was out of town. I hear a knock at my front door. I open it to see a young man dressed in a nice black suit. He quickly assures me that he is not asking for money or pushing religion, but in fact offering a great promotion on vacuum cleaners and can clean one area of my house for a great discount! He hands me a simple piece of paper (laminated) with the promotion on it. I never got the name of the company or really any information from it. He then quickly goes on and asks me which room has the highest traffic. I laugh and say well, the kitchen and living-room but it's tile and laminate. He is not discouraged and again quickly repeats that he can do one room - so where is it, let's get going. This guy is getting excited about carpets! All I can think is that Mark isn't home and there is no way I am letting some stranger into my house. Abby is looking a little concerned and Deeds is very interested but then again she always is. I really don't think Dee Dee can attack should the need arise. But he keeps insisting then pulling out the guilt - he needs three appointment a day. Well, sorry buddy, I can't help you out. As he left, I locked the deadbolt and wrote down his description. I thought about calling the police but then called myself paranoid. But when I did leave the house later on, I didn't lock up the dog just in case someone came back and decided to help themselves. That piece of paper? He took it back. And when he left, I kept thinking - where is his vacuum cleaner? I saw his van driving while I was out. Creepy 15 passenger van. I watched all day out of my front window and must have saw them drive by 5 times.
The next day I was driving to church and saw the same van pulled over by two police cars and two officers talking to the occupants. I laughed. Guess I'm not as paranoid as I thought.
Yesterday at work, some of the ladies were discussing these guys. I shared my story.
Today on the news...
The Estevan Police Service is advising the public that the City of Estevan has decided to cancel the business license of a company known as Plazio Industries.
According to a press release that was issued Wednesday, the company in question has been going door to door in the city conducting high pressure sales of vacuum cleaners. Several complaints have been made to the EPS (Estevan Police Service) as well as members of Estevan city council in regards to the tactics employed the company's sales people.
The reports indicated that the sales representatives are very pushy and once they get inside the home, it is very difficult to get them to leave.
The EPS is asking the public to report any further incidents regarding this company and its representatives. As of this date, the company can no longer legally conduct their business within the city. (Estevan Mercury)
I'm sure glad I didn't let them in. I didn't even think they were legit. Just a guy scoping out my house is see if there was anything good to steal when he came back later in his van.
