Then it Dawned on Me

I play the banjo. Admittedly not all that well but I enjoy it nonetheless. I have listened to country music off and on since I was around 10 years old. I've always said that country music is the music of the ordinary person. It's the music that tells your story. It's simple, it's real and it takes more than a computer to produce. However, there seems to be shift in country music lately. I call it the "Redneck Effect." Its basically a pissing match between songwriters trying to "out country" the next guy. I'm from the South. Well I'm from the Deep South. Yeah, I'm from a small farming town. Really? I'm from a farm. Oh yeah, I grew up down in the holler. Well my holler's deeper than yers!! Gah.
I can't relate anymore. I'm a 30 year old wife and mother of two. I drive a SUV. Every Tuesday, I drive my daughter to her piano lessons. Every Thursday, I drive my kids to the library and sit around with the other moms and talk about mom stuff. I don't drink beer or 'shine. And though I do enjoy smoked meats, I also love having a strawberry spinach salad. So I've moved more to a singer/songwriter type of music. Maybe it will be more "me", maybe not.
I still like bluegrass music. I doubt that will change. I think from now on, I'll just stick with the instrumentals.
