Here is a recap of our trip to Minot last weekend. (Mom and Dad, you can skip this part, it's basically cut and pasted from my last email to you!)
Last weekend we went to Minot with another couple and their two kids (boys, 7 and 6 months). We had a really good time. I introduced Abby to Grad Valley. She really liked the hills with all the numbers on them. We did a bit of shopping (got my foaming hand soap from Bath and Body Works) and then I took Abby and Isabelle and the older boy to the pool. He can swim really well so Abby stayed in the shallow end while he went back and forth and I kept a hand on Isabelle. Then I took them all back to my room for cartoons. Mark, and the others went to Tool Crib and Menards. Then we went to Applebee's. The kids were hungry and squirmy, Isabelle threw everything we gave her on the floor. As many times as she could, then cried when we wouldn't give it back. I almost laughed when the waitress said that the kids were really well behaved. I guess she just really wanted her tip! Or maybe kids these days are worse behaved than I thought! Then we decided that another trip to the pool was in order. But this time I stayed in the room with Isabelle and everyone else went. We decided not to bring the playpen for Isabelle so we put pillows down in the corner of the room for her to sleep. It worked pretty good until about 3 am when I heard a whimper and something touched my knees. I reached down and there she was. I picked her up and she spent most of the night with me. It was pretty cute how she woke up, walked around both beds and found me. The next morning, the guys took the kids for another swim. We attempted to go for another round of shopping but none of the stores opened until noon. So by this time, the zoo was open. It's still a really great zoo. There was a couple exhibits still closed from the flood but most of it was back to normal. So many animals and very active. There was a gibbon that was so loud!! Mark got a great video of it. The kids ran from animal to animal and all Abby wanted was to see the giraffes!! She even got the older boy into it! It was so hot today. I'm glad we went when it opened. We were all done by lunch, right when the heat (and humidity) was getting crazy. As we walked out, I saw a boy on the sidewalk who looked familiar. One of my mom-friends from the pool was just getting to the zoo. It's crazy how every time you go to Minot, you see someone you know. We had a good lunch at Olive Garden - Isabelle slept through most it only waking up when we were all done and ate up Abby's left over mac and cheese. Then it was time to go home. It was a good trip, we got some shopping done (got Mark's cherry coke) and did some fun things the kids enjoyed (and we did too). We even had a nice border guard going down! All around, a good trip!!
Okay, Mom and Dad, you can start reading again...
Today, being the hottest day of the year, we pruned the trees. Did I mention it was hot? It was 40 with the humidex. Mark borrowed a chainsaw on the end of a long pole and the neighbour whose yard is beside/under the trees also offered a saw attached to an even longer pole. I think he was just happy we were cutting down the branches that were getting close to his roof! Mark borrowed a one ton truck and he made two trips to the dump with all the branches he brought down! My job was to cut the big branches into more manageable branches that could fit in the truck. Abby helped by dragging the branches to the pile. Isabelle napped. When we were all done, Mark got us Slurpees. I only have one big scratch, Mark had a few more. Everyone has all their fingers and no one had a branch land on their head. A good day.
