Peek A Boo!
Our hay was cut a few days ago and baled shortly after. I always like this time of the year. When they cut the hay, the hawks come out and follow to catch all the mice rodents and bugs that scurry away. I was at work at the time but my husband said the hawk was soaring around all day.
And then, since all the long grass is gone, I can explore more of the property. See things I didn’t before. Check out the crops. I don’t know too much about bearded barley but it looks good to me!
I also saw this little bird flying around this evening. I looked it up and it’s a Say’s Pheobe. I had never even heard of it before. It’s smaller than a robin with a orange shaded breast. It eats insects and judging by the number of mosquito bites on me, I’m more than happy it’s here! Although apparently it eats bees, wasps and flying ants more than mosquitoes but maybe when they see just how many mosquitoes there are around here they will change their feeding habits!
