No Spoilers

I read a lot of historical fiction. It’s my favourite. I also love watching documentaries, especially anything to do with history and the British monarchy. And I love The Crown. 

I find myself looking up a lot of the historical events that happen either in the show or whatever book I’m reading at the time on Google. I also look up any historical figures that I don’t know a lot about. It occurred to me that while this may seems like a spoiler alert, it’s history. It’s not like it’s a secret. Yes, King Edward VIII have up the throne and married the American divorcee. Spoiler Alert! 

What I do appreciate about shows like The Crown and good historical novels is how they deal with the emotional side of history. How the characters deal with these historic events. We know Princess Margaret’s marriage won’t last but it doesn’t stop us from watching her go through it all. We know that Charles marries Diana but ends up with Camilla. But it’s still interesting to watch them get through it. We may know the end but we don’t know it all.
