Guess Who
I saw a hawk today as I was driving to work. Sitting in top of the power pole like it was the middle of summer! I could hardly believe it. I didn’t even stop and take a picture of it which I now regret because I’m trying to figure out what type of hawk it is! I found a few different possibilities but to be honest, they all look so very similar. I checked on my Audubon app and I narrowed it down to these two (I took both pictures from the Audubon app):
Northern Goshawks can be found in this area during the winter. The one I saw was pretty similar to this. Kind of greyish-brown but with a light breast and some spotting along the sides of the breast.
Rough-legged Hawks are also commonly found here during the winter. So it could be this one too. It had a more solid light breast. But judging solely by the map, this seems to be a better choice. However birds don’t read the maps and don’t follow coloured borders as well as we seem to think.
And now I can’t wait for spring again!! I can’t wait for all the birds to return and for all the other animals to start moving around more. Except the mice.
