I always knew this day would come...

Every night when I take out the dog, especially if it's dark already, I always imagine what I would do if a bear walked down the road. We don't have a fence. I tie the dog to a tether and let her roam. Then when she's done, I clip her collar back on the leash and lead her back inside. So if a bear walked down the street, would I have time to get her off the tether and into the house before it came too close? Well, it wasn't that bad, but it did freak me out. Usually when I walk her out the door, she looks to the front of the house. I give her a tug and we go to the back. And when I bring her back in, she usually stares at the front yard but comes right in when I give her a tug. But last night, when I was bringing her back in, I gave her a tug and she didn't move. And her ears went straight up. I looked up and saw a black bear cub about six feet up our tree. I opened the door and shoved in the dog. She didn't want to move but I made her. I nearly took her leg off slamming the door. All I could thing of was where there's baby, Mama's not too far off. So I went to the front door to watch for Mama, but she never showed up. Mark called the authorities and they took a couple passes by, but they couldn't find anything. So that was my excitement for the evening. I think I'm going to take a flashlight tonight.

One of the RCMP that Mark and I know came in today and handed me a handful of speeding tickets to process. He teased me that I must have a pile of these at home. I kindly offered him one of our donuts.
