To New Experiences!

A few weeks back, the pastor at the church I play at called me up to see if I wanted to play at their music night. I figured sure, why not. I was under the impression it was going to be a small thing mostly for the people in the church. Then I heard all these big groups were playing and there were signs all over town and a radio spot, all talking about this night and listing the acts, including me! So then I got nervous. These are good groups...then me. So tonight was the big night and you know what, it went really well. The groups all sang (I was last!) and then I went on. I was nervous about going last because I didn't want to follow any of them but since I was by myself, it was different enough not to be able to compare. So I sang and mandolin. I started out with Little Joe the Wrangler cuz it's easy and it gets my voice warmed up. I made a comment that you can't play mandolin without knowing a cowboy song and this one is a classic. Then I told them to ask their parents (or grandparents) who Wilf Carter was. It got a good laugh. The second song was Have You Ever Seen the Rain and you know what, people actually were singing along. It was so nice! And then I finished with Travellin' Soldier. By the end, my mouth was so dry but I was really proud of myself. I wasn't too nervous that I couldn't sing and I managed to look relaxed. After "the show" we all went downstairs for cake. Yummy. I got to talk to a few people I haven't seen in a while. The big news of the night is that Flin Flon is hosting the Vagina Monologues. A lot of people I know are going so I think I'm going to go too. I heard it's really powerful. My boss has seen it and she actually told me about it first. If she really liked it, I think it would be a good thing to see. I'd hate to pass up the experience.
