She's Gone Vegan!

Abby has developed a nasty little habit. Whenever I feed her, she starts crying. She really hates food. The only foods she eats without complaint is fruit (all fruit), her baby cereal and yogurt. She used to like peas and green beans but not anymore. She really hates chicken. She won't even swallow it. And the weirdest part is that even through her screaming, she still opens her mouth to take another bite. She willingly takes it but then either screams more or pushes it to the roof of her mouth and leaves it there. Then I have to take the spoon and dig it out. I have tried washing it down with milk but she's learned that trick and adapted. And all I can think about is if she has food issues now, what is she going to be like as a teenager! But the rational part of me says that this is just a phase. Keep feeding her all the good food and she'll get over it.

On the other hand, Dee Dee is enjoying this new stage. Now, whenever I give Abby some Cheerios or an Arrowroot cookie, the dog lays down under the high chair. She knows that if Abby isn't all that hungry, she's going to get a meal. You know how kids enjoy the game of throwing something and watching you pick it up and give it back to them so they can throw it again? Yeah, that game didn't last long with Cheerios. The first time it happened Deeds looks at me and didn't move. She knows she's not allowed to eat food that falls on the floor. But I wanted Abby to know that you can't just throw food on the floor and expect it to be handed back to you. You eat what's on the plate or dog does. So once I told Deeds she could have it, she's got the place staked out. Now she doesn't even hesitate if a Cheerio falls. I've caught her licking Abby's Cheerio-covered fingers. It doesn't help that as soon as Deeds walks close by Abby reaches out her hand.

I gave Abby a piece of pickle. She squished up her face then smiled. I think she actually liked it. Weird.

We still haven't mastered the fine art of sleeping. This morning I woke up in the spare bedroom with Abby tucked in beside me and couldn't remember how I got there. I don't remember when she woke up or anything. I think that all the nights are blending together. This evening, Abby was getting tired. I put her in the comfy rocking chair and let her rock it. Basically, she sits in the chair, throws herself backwards and makes the chair rock. She loves it and it's great when she just can't sit still. Eventually the rocking stopped and I looked over and she was intently watching the TV. (An Evening with the Dixie Chicks) and soon started nodding off. She slept in the chair for at least half and hour. Tonight she fell asleep at 10:30. Wish me luck.
