Rut Breaker

I'm ready for a break. For a change. For a chance to get away. So we're taking the long weekend and going to Winnipeg to visit Mark's Grandpa and maybe some other family as well. While I'm not looking forward to all the driving (5 hours) it will be a lot better than if we were coming from Flin Flon. And we haven't seen Grandpa in a long time. Plus it's good to get away every now and then. And really good to go to Winnipeg for some shopping! I only have one thing on my list...a purse. Mark promised me one for my birthday and I've been looking but I'm picky and won't settle for one I don't love. But my current purse is starting to fall apart and the zipper has completely broken and now hanging in the purse. (Not good) So hopefully I can find one in Winnipeg. The one other thing I am looking for (dream list) is a squareneck resonator guitar or as it is commonly known...a dobro. (Dobro is a brand name like Kleenex. People just say dobro to refer to them all like people say Kleenex to refer to all facial tissues)

It looks like this...

You play it with one of these in your left hand...

And hold it like this...

If you've heard most country songs, then you've heard it. It sounds like a steel guitar but a bit different. It's on songs like Travelin' Soldier, When God Fearin' Women Get the Blues and What Was I Thinkin'. Geez, none of these songs know how to end their words properly. That's country for you. Anyway, I'm hoping to hit Long and McQuade because they seem to be the only store that carries them and try one out. I'm not going to buy one this weekend but I'd like to know if I at least like it. Then I can save my birthday money. Otherwise, I can give it up and try something simpler like a regular guitar. I just hope these enough time to get to the store.

So I'm ready for some adventure, something new. Something different. I think the routine is starting to get to me. I tell when I start to wonder if all I'm living for is the weekend that it's time for a break. I need to get out and break the monotony.

So here we go...wish me luck!

Well I'm about nine days late and a dollar from wishing you good luck, but I hope you found both a purse and a squareneck resonator guitar. Isn't it amazing how music can just take us away? I loved reading this one.
