Making Up For Lost Time
Howdy! Boy I am making up for lost time! I think living in isolation for so long that I am taking advantage of every single opportunity that comes my way. As you know, I am going to the Arrogant Worms concert in Moose Jaw this Friday. It has been over 5 years since I have seen them live and they are celebrating their 20th anniversary so I am so excited to go. It is just so great because we can spend some time with Mark's parents and leave Abby there for the night and enjoy the show like two adults! Whoop!
Then, later in March, there is a Sportsman Dinner in town. "The Firm" always buys tickets for the employees. I've very excited to go. Brian Burke will be there with Jim Hopson and Darian Durant. Plus some old hockey players whose names I don't remember. One guy was the guy who scored the winning goal in the 1961 Canada/Russia game. But the food should be good and pretty entertaining. There is an auction and apparently since this is a fundraiser for the new rink in town and they provide a charity receipt, the people go nuts and bid crazy amounts. Last year, a Canadian Olympic jersey went for $30,000. I just can't wait to get dressed up and eat out and somewhere other than Houston's Pizza (not that that isn't great too!)
In April, for the Grand Opening of the rink (Specra Place I guess it will be called) Tom Cochrane and Red Rider are giving a concert with Kim Mitchell as the Opening Act. We are planning to go to that too! I just have to find tickets. I can't see them on TicketMaster yet. Hopefully they will be up before it's too late!
And the icing on the cake! Keith Urban is playing not one, but two shows in Regina!!!! I remember when the Dixie Chicks went to Saskatoon. We had just moved to Flin Flon and it was pretty early in the school year so I thought it wouldn't be a good idea to drive 5 1/2 hours by myself (or force Mark to come with me) to see see them. Then they went to Winnipeg (with the Eagles!) but it was the summer we were moving and right before we were driving to Grande Prairie. I actually worked out of bus tickets and an hotel room but decided it was just too rushed and too expensive (and we had Abby to think of too). So I missed that one too. I have always regretted not trying to make it, especially that first show. I still haven't fully gotten over it! But this time it's different. And thank goodness he added a second show for Saturday. This way, Mark and I are going to drive in that morning and we can spend the day hanging out and then I can go to the show. Mark isn't all that interested in Keith Urban so I persuaded one of my parents to go with me. I was fully prepared to go by myself if need be but it will be more fun this way.
Mark's parents were just here. It's Mark's Dad break so they are visiting family. They drove this way and arrived Friday evening and spent Saturday, Sunday with us and left this morning. Abby was a bit shy at first but before you knew it, she was having a ball with Mama and Mama. Yep, she doesn't differentiate between Grandma and Grandma. It all comes out Mama. Oh well, she's usually looking at whoever she's talking to. When she woke up Sunday, she saw Grandpa and ran straight for him and gave him a giant hug! When we drove to church, we had to take two vehicles and she was so concerned about "Mama come too?" And then afterwards when we went out for lunch, "Mama come?" And then when she saw them, she ran over and gave hugs. The funniest part was that they had to come everywhere, even to change a diaper. "Mama help bum?"
Abby was really sad when they left. I thought she was about to cry. But we reassured her that she was going to see them on Friday. I tried to explain how many sleeps that was but I don't think she understood. However, she was happy to go and wave at the window.
Yep, that girl is going to grow up knowing her grandparents.
