The Streak Continues - Or How I Learned to Embrace Rock and Roll
I have never got stuck in the snow (knocking on the desk). That's right, never! Not in this Jimmy and not even when I drove my tiny cavalier. That little car had front wheel drive and man did I get her in some situations (don't read that part Dad!) Like the time I drove down Pinky Road after a week of rain, the many snow drifts and countless trips to and from Saskatoon. Never once did I get stuck enough that I needed assistance. And the streak continues. Last night we were wholluped (I don't use that word enough) and it was a nightmare to drive home. (Sidenote: Mark is in Churchbridge tonight with the curling team. They left this morning at 6am. They had planned to leave last night so they didn't have rush in the morning, but the nasty storm ruined that plan. And I am thankful they waited.) The way I drive home, I take a road that in right at the edge of town. As I turned down it, I knew that it was a bad idea. Maybe it was my habit-loving nature, maybe it was some sick need to prove something but I continued on. Through the street I couldn't see, past the first abandoned car in the middle of the road which had drove into a snowbank, past the second abandoned car dug into another snowbank covering an intersection and up until the street I had to turn off onto. Where the street should have been, there was a wall of snow....and another car stuck. Now I was worried. I know that Abby's sitter is only about half a block away, but it's not like I can abandon my car and walk her home. This was all getting a bit ridiculous when I decided to turn around. I managed to get about 3/4 of the way when I couldn't move. Well, I could move but only about 2 feet. So back and forth I went until I rocked myself clear. I got about a foot before I couldn't move again. And this time it was bad. I could only move about 2 inches. I was starting to panic and thought about what I was going to say to Mark when I called him for help. But again, my sick need to prove something kept me rocking back and forth. I figured that as long as I could still move a little, I could get out of this. I threw on the 4 lo and rocked as hard as I could....after about 5 minutes, I was going about 3 feet in each direction. But I still couldn't get over the hump. Finally after one big reverse, I floored it (I know, it's a good way to work yourself down to the ice and then you'll never get out) but it worked and I was skidding along down the road. I made a bee line down the road passing all the poor people stuck in their cars and those driving (about to get stuck). I finally made to the sitter's house (which was about 30 feet away from where I was spinning my tires) and picked up Abby. Mission accomplished. And the icing on the cake....Abby hadn't pooped in about three days so I gave her the poop juice before I dropped her off. Guess who had a massive, use the whole box of wipes poop at the sitter's instead of at home!! Score! I didn't even pretend to be sorry! (She though it was kinda funny too) As I left her house, I could see an SUV drive up right behind that last car I saw stuck. They must have thought the car was stopped at the stop sign and waiting to go. But by the time they figured it out, they were stuck too. What a day!
I know I had more to say than just that, but that's al I can think of to write about right now. Perhaps later, when I remember, I will update. Mark is still out of town so I think I'll make a bag of popcorn and a gin and tonic...oh, that's something...I've been trying to expand my drinking horizons (maybe a new New Year's Resolution, perhaps not the best one ever, but hey, staying realistic here) and I've looked up some good recipes. I've had a gin and tonic before at Boston Pizza and really liked it. But then we went somewhere else and it tasted horrible. I decided to look up how to make it to see if I could do it. I mean really, how hard could it be? Not very, you just need to get the ratios right. 2 oz gin, 5 oz tonic water and a slice of lime (but not lime juice, tried that too and not good.) It's great. I'm going try a martini next but I need to get one of those shaker thingys. And a martini glass. And a good sexy Scottish accent.
P.S. You should have seen my tires when I got home. It was like I bought new white rims for the Jimmy. Mark was wondering what had happened!
P.P.S. "Truck Got Stuck" just popped up on ITunes. Take that!!
