Friday Night Bust
Today was supposed to be a great day. Epic. It all started on Monday when my friend called me. Her daughter is in the same MYC as Abby. She asked if I would be able to drive her daughter to MYC because there was a chance she would be going out of town. I told Abby we would be driving her little friend and she was ecstatic. She ran around the house yelling how this little girl is her favourite friend and told me over and over how we were going to drive her to MYC. Well, the weather changed and my friend decided not to go. Abby was pretty disappointed but I told her that we'd ask her mom if she could come over one day and play. So when we were at MYC, Abby asked her, and she said yes!! That was Tuesday. Abby made all sorts of plans. They were going to play horses, and restaurant and play ballet. Then, yesterday, my friend called and had to postpone because of company coming. Oh Abby was crushed. But I decided we'd have a special Girls Day. She made bird feeders at the library so I collected pine cones from the front yard and dried them off so we could make some more. And then in the afternoon, I told her, we'd make popcorn and watch a movie. Did I mention I was getting a cold? Yup.
The bird feeders turned out pretty good. We made about 25 of them. I smeared some peanut butter on the pine cones and Abby rolled them in bird seed. I hot glued some string on them and hung them up outside. (pictures on Facebook) I even dressed Isabelle up so she could come too. I put them on the sleigh but the snow was awful for trying to push it around. It had a hard frozen layer on top of really soft powder. So every time I pushed, it broke through. It was impossible to turn. But I managed a few laps around the back yard before taking Isabelle inside. Abby played a bit longer but the next door dog started barking and it scared her. Did I mention Isabelle is teething? Yup.
Then we had lunch and Isabelle fell asleep. I took Abby downstairs with her Rapunzel doll and I made some popcorn. Then I started Tangled. We watched for about 10 minutes then Abby said she wanted to watch Caillou and Isabelle woke up. So that was the end of that. But I got to eat most of the popcorn. We've spent the rest of the afternoon going up and downstairs alternating between watching Netflix and playing Crib Tent. (Crib Tent is a game where both Abby and Isabelle go in the crib and play. Sometimes I throw a sheet over the crib. I love this game and encourage it at every opportunity.)
So my Epic Day of Awesome turned out to much like every other day. A little bit of creative play, a lot of TV and some playing outside. We're going to try to reschedule the play-date. I'll keep you updated on how it goes. Maybe it's for the best. One of the horses Abby wanted to play with her friend has gone missing and I've looked for three days for it and still came up empty!
One positive note: the smoker Mark has been working on is completed and he brought it home today. I can't wait to fire it up.
