Mark Gets to Have All the Fun
The only time I've seen a bear is when we drove to the dump. It sat on its bum the entire time and ate "food" out of a garbage bag. Not very National Geographic if you ask me. Mark went fishing last year and saw a mother with her two cubs (running away, thank goodness) then when he was driving last summer, he almost hit one running across the highway. Now he tells me about his bear encounter when he was at Camp. He woke up really early one morning and decided to take advantage of the nice day (it didn't rain at camp - lots here, but not at camp). So he went down the the dining area. Then he said some kids were fooling around so he went over to talk to them. When he turned around to go back to where he was sitting, a black bear was in his spot. It had been sitting in the bush waiting for hm to move so it could go for the garbage. The camp dog treed it and eventually they scared it off. it's kinda freaky if you think about how long that bear was watching Mark. Makes me wonder if any bears have ever watched me pick blueberries. But I'm so close to town that I doubt it. In any case, this summer I'm buying bear spray. I can't run like I used to and I'm a little more protective than I was last summer.
