Happy Nights Make Happy Days

Yesterday I had to go to the clinic to pick up a prescription and as I was walking in, I saw a flier advertising child care. I had already gone through two other child care providers. The first didn't really have a spot for Abby especially if she was part time. The other was willing to take her but only if I paid the full time rate (approx $600 a month). So I phoned this number. Turns out, she's a stay at home mom who looks after kids to make a few extra bucks. She's more than willing to take Abby even if it's a few days a weeks and the days are not set every week. Plus I only pay for the time Abby is there. She doesn't have an education in child care but she is taking a course that helps with child care. I think in my case, I can't be too picky. We went over there this afternoon. She seems really nice and attentive to the kids who were there. She's got a nice backyard that is fenced. Plus, she's only a block away. I think it's going to be a nice fit.

Weaning has been going well. yesterday, I nursed her in the morning but fed her cereal for the rest of the day. I had to nurse her once in the evening (my boobs started to hurt). I gave her a bath, fed her a big bowl and put her in her sleeping bag and held her until she fell asleep. Then, it was around 11:00pm, I put her in her crib. She didn't wake up until 8:15am. I nursed her then (I really had to at that point) and she's been eating big bowls of cereal today. I can see why women have to do this gradually. My boobs are huge! and a little sore. I guess this is what it's like to have fake boobs. Huge, and hard. I can't stop looking at them. Okay, I really have to stop. I'll have to nurse her tonight but I want to keep it at a minimum. But I will trade a full night of sleep for sore boobs any day. Right now Abby is having a great nap. Oh, another trick I did to get her to sleep is to put the nursing pillow around her head. Yes I've heard that there aren't supposed to be any pillows or blankets in the crib but she's six months old and can squirm up a storm. She can move her head if it's too close to the pillow. The pillow helps her think that Mark and I sleeping next to her. The sleeping bag gives extra warmth and again, makes her think that we're there. Combine that with a full belly that digest in 15 minutes, makes for a long night of peaceful sleep.

She gets cereal and other food during the day. I tried to give her formula in a bottle but she won't take it. She won't even take breast milk in a bottle. She hates the bottle. But she'll eat for the spoon. She's starting to like mashed veggies and loves mashed peaches.
