The Dog
It's been awhile since I've talked about the dog. Probably because it's been awhile since I spent any time with her. She's such a content dog and doesn't ask for much attention so she kinda gets left out. Thank goodness there is Abby to entertain her. Or vise versa! Abby sure loves that dog and Dee Dee sure tolerates her presence.
Abby loves to feed Dee Dee. And she always make sure her food and water dish are filled. Sometimes she takes it upon herself to fill them. Today, she grabbed the ice cream pail that we use to dish out Dee Dee's food and carried it around like a bag. She even told us Goodbye a couple times. I think this may have upset Dee Dee because later in the day, when Abby ran past her kennel, Dee Dee jumped up and started "burying" her food. She hasn't done this in a long time. Not since we told Abby she wasn't allowed to play in the dog's food. All day Dee Dee has made sure that her food dish is nice and covered with her blanket.
Abby running circles around the dog...
I finally got around to giving Dee Dee a good brushing. I have a new dog! It's amazing, she's black and a lot skinnier than the old, winter dog. It took about half an hour and there is enough fur in the back yard for all the birds in the neighbourhood to make a nest for themselves. And maybe a guest nest if they have family over. It was crazy. And the sad part is that tomorrow you won't even be able to tell I brushed her. Arg. But it was a beautiful day and we all played outside for awhile. Dee Dee sat in the sun, Abby climbed up and down the slide (she never slid down, Baby went once but she was so concerned about her that she never went down herself). Mark shovelled the snow that hadn't melted into the sun so it will melt. Abby and I tried to go for a walk but it was so windy and the wind was cold! But in the backyard, it was sheltered.
Mark and I have been discussing when it is time for Abby to switch to a big girl bed. That is, a mattress on the floor. She flops around so much that I'm scared to try anything more yet. We had talked about doing it during his Easter break so we wouldn't have to be tired after being up all night getting her back in her bed. But Mark was out in the garage this afternoon and brought the mattress in. Why wait? So Abby watched as we took down her old crib and got her new bed all set up. Then we climbed in and read stories. She loved it. When it was time for her nap, she wasn't too happy about it. But then, lately she hasn't been happy about her nap in general. I think she may have slept for a few minutes but she never left her room. In fact, when she was done, she was sitting behind the door and I had to push her out of the way to get in her room. Tonight, for bed time, I got down with her and read her a story. She made me put my head on the pillow next to hers. Then she wanted me to stay and sleep. When I got up and said good night, the tears and screams came! But she was so tired - no nap - that after a couple minutes, silence. I snuck in her room later and... she's fast asleep, cuddling one of her many stuffed toys she takes to bed, snoring softly. Makes me want to scoop her up. But then I guess that would ruin everything. Guess I'll have to scoop her up tomorrow!
