What a Difference A year Makes

Last year at this time, in Flin Flon, the church gathered everyone together to pray for rain to help in the fight against the forest fires. I just got a message on Facebook today that the church here is gathering for prayer because of the rains causing all the flooding! Just go on YouTube and search Rafferty Dam 2011. Some time ago, there were concerns of flooding because the dam was letting out water at a rate of 200 cubic meters a second. This morning they announced that they are letting out 600 cms. The videos only show it when it was at 400 cms but you get the idea.

This weekend was not a total washout (pun intended). On Friday, we left for Regina right after work. Abby was excited to see her grandparents but she kept saying "Mama, Papa? I shy." But she wasn't. She pretended to be shy but you could see that little smile sneaking through. Mark and I went to X-Men at the theatre. It was good. I really like the X-Men stories. I remember watching the cartoon show so I'd like to think I have some history with the show. We went to the late show so we didn't get back until 12:30. It felt great staying out so late. Felt like a kid again!

Saturday wasn't such a nice day. Abby stayed home with Grandpa and played while Mark and I attempted to go shopping. The problem was, we didn't have anything we really wanted. So we drove around a bit, bought something small at Princess Auto and went back for lunch. Then we went went to The Green Lantern. Then it was time to play outside. My dad BBQed and Abby jumped around on the stepping stones. It was great until is started to rain. But it stopped enough for some yummy BBQ. And best of all, right before Abby went for her bath, she said she had to pee. So I put her on the potty expecting nothing when I hear the sweetest sound ever...SHE PEED IN THE POTTY!!! Whoo-hoo!

On Sunday morning, we decide to go back home. There were reports of highways being closed but some said they were open and some said closed so we decided to take our chances. Well, sure enough, Highway 39 was closed and we had to detour around. But since we had nowhere to be, it was fine. Then, about 25 minutes out of Weyburn, Abby said she had to pee. She was still wearing a diaper so we told her she could pee in that. But no way, she had to pee. So we pulled over on a side road to let her pee. Ever try to help a 2.5 year old pee on the side of the road? She wouldn't let me take her pants all the way off so when she did eventually pee, it ran right down her leg, into her pants and into her shoes. Good thing we had extra clothes. Then she was as right as rain. Which started falling. Another detour in Weyburn (man, that place has changed) and we were home free. If you look really closely, you can see the train tracks. They are peeking out over the water. Barely.

We got home in time for lunch and for Abby to have an excellent nap. Excellent meaning that Mark and I took turns in the swing and enjoyed the backyard.

Today was back to normal. Still more rain prompting more fears and evacuations. Abby continued to pee in the potty (except at the babysitter's house) and she pooped in her diaper (baby steps, every victory is a victory).

I was going to get groceries tonight but since I'm made of sugar, I decided to stay inside. I have a craving for the Peanut Butter Chocolate squares so I might make up a batch. Or get lazy and read in my chair. Who knows?

Yes, I have had to stop on the side of the road for a two year old. We usually bring the potty with us if we are going to be driving more than a couple hours. When we don't have it, I just hold Chloe in a sitting position, with one arm under her knees, and the other under her arms. It works well and she doesn't ever get anything on her clothes.
Grats to Abby though on starting to figure it out!!
