My Mini-Me?

My daughter and I are very different people. For awhile, when she was a toddler, this was a hard concept for me to wrap my head around. I kept wanting to treat her like I would want to be treated and I’d get frustrated when she didn’t react to something the same way I would have. It took me a long time before I accepted hat she wasn’t a smaller version of me but whole new and separate person all unto herself.

This year she is taking band in school. And wouldn’t you know it, she’s playing the flute. The same instrument I played in the band. I eventually switched to tenor saxophone so we’ll see where that goes.

As an aside:
We told her that if she doesn’t want to have a shower in the evenings anymore then she can set her alarm and shower in the morning. So this week, sure enough, her alarm went off and she barely moved. I had to nearly drag her out of bed and into the shower! That evening at supper I asked how she liked showering in the morning. She answered, “ I like having a shower in the morning but I like sleeping more.”
I’ve never felt closer to her than I did in that moment.
