Back to Normal
Or All Good Things Must Come To An End
Tomorrow marks the end of my Maternity Leave. In reflecting on the year, there are ups and downs, much like life I suppose. The first 3 months were very, very difficult. I often wondered what I was doing and if I could even get through. But thanks to lots of people, we made it through. After the first 3 months, things started to improve. And now she's a joy to have, well, maybe not at 2am. But even that is getting better.
This summer we travelled to family we haven't visited in too long. We had Mark's parents and my best friend visit us. And for all the rain and cold weather, I took advantage of every single nice day there was. I got to go to the beach more than any other summer. I showed Abby how to splash and how to pick blueberries. My parents just left from a short and very sweet visit. Abby got to play with both sets of grandparent and made memories. She has learned so much this year. From not realizing that she even had hands to picking up Cheerios and feeding herself. From not knowing what a toy was to actively playing with dolls and other toys. And yet, her favourite toys are still her favourite people and a good snuggle.
Tomorrow I go back to work. I'm viewing this as an opportunity for Abby to grow even more. Some days she gets to play with Mommy and learn from me. Other days she spends the day with a very nice lady and two little playmates from whom she can also learn. In a way, she is a very lucky girl that she can have these experiences.
I wonder what this next year will hold for her.
