Eating It Up

So tonight we were invited out for supper. It was some friends of the pastor's brother who met yesterday. I know, a little quick for house parties, but hey, what else do you do with a bunch of leftovers! So anyway, there were quite a few people there. I had made those biscuits but they said not to bring anything. Usually that means bring something in a polite way but with a bunch of leftovers, I believed them. So anyway, I didn't need to worry. Dave had made lamb and there were plenty of Thanksgiving meal leftover. Yummy. So before the meal, we were all sitting around in the living room (the house was amazing, beautiful cabin-type on the lake). They were talking about where they are from and all that. This one guy, Clem, he lives alone on this island in the middle of nowhere. Literally. The only way to get to his place is by plane. Not even by boat. And that's only part of the year, the rest, he lives in Mexico on the beach. He's got a garden that takes almost no work and he grows nearly every fruit out there. He house is across from Elizabeth Taylor's house. I'm listening to this guy not sure if I can believe this stuff. But everyone seems to believe it. And that wasn't the best part. We got talking about living in the wilderness and all the animals like the caribou who swim with half their bodies sticking out of the water cuz they float so well, and the guy that lives at the house we were at tells us the story when he and this other guy saw a Sasquatch driving in their truck. He told the entire story. And so we asked him, couldn't it have been a bear or a moose? Well, no cuz he's seen them before and he knows how they move and it was definitely not one of those. He even described it. So we talked and talked and someone piped up well, how have we not seen them if they are so big and they are out there. Well, another piped up and said that he's lived in the bush for thirty years and has never seen a wolverine. And really, if you see a bear, it's because he wants you to see him. You just don't sneak up on a bear. So it's possible for these things to be out there and never seen. So on the drive back Mark and I were talking about it and we decided that we believe that there are species that are out there that we have never seen yet but that big and in these parts? I tend to believe more than Mark does but then, I always was a sucker for a great story. A part of me thinks that back at the house, everyone is laughing themselves silly over the stories they told these new folks. But really, what a night. I don't care if it was true or not, it was incredible to hear. I sat there riveted to them. I couldn't decide if I was hungrier for turkey or stories. Those guys could write a book.

So we drove home and watched Corner Gas. Now Mark is watching Discovery Channel and I'm making sure I get this all down before I forget. I'm sure I forgot somethings. Oh, like I had lamb for the first time tonight. It's Dave's specialty and it's good. Very good. And chocolate cake. It was another one of the guest's birthday yesterday. We really cashed in. Tomorrow it's back to work for the both of us.

Maybe I should write a book.
