English as a Stupid Language

I think by now we all know that English is a crazy mishmash of languages that has as many rules as it has exceptions to those rules.

Take this example...
Bill and Mary were married 10 years before they decided to separate. Now they live in separate houses. Same words, similar meanings, different pronunciations.

Just like produce. You can proDUCE PROduce. A soldier can de-SERT in the DES-ert. The wind can wind up a flag. A student is subJECTED to SUB-jects. Need I go on?

It’s things that this that make me smile and thank God that I grew up speaking this language, knowing its idiosyncrasies instead of trying to learn it later in life.
