Northern Reflections

Another whirlwind tour! Mom and Dad just left for the next part of their holidays. We had a really good time with them. After choir on Saturday, Mark and I were relaxing upstairs just waiting for Mom and Dad to arrive. They were a little earlier than I thought, I was going to clean up some more, oh well. So we had a little visit and then we unloaded their car with what I hope to be the last of my stuff. We finished just in time to sit and relax before going for supper at Rocky View OTA. That was the same place we stayed when Mark went for his job interview. It was so nice then that we thought it would be a good place for supper. It was. Mom had the local pickerel, Mark and Dad had the Prime Rib and I had teriyaki stir-fry. Everything was really nice and the view was amazing. I couldn't finish my supper so we took it home. On the way home, my supper was squeaking on the arm rest so I just put the container in my lap. When we stopped for gas, I looked down and my lap was covered in teriyaki sauce. So when we got home, I changed, put some spray and wash on my pants and threw them into the wash. It took two times, but I got the stain out and my pants look as good as new. Whew. My parents are redoing their kitchen so they are getting new blinds. Since they don't need them anymore and we have none, they brought them. We managed to use almost all of them. We covered all the windows that we wanted to anyway. So we spent the evening figuring which blinds should go where and which windows needed two to cover the entire window and then installing them. I was wiped after that.

Yesterday we got up and went for a walk. I showed them where I got berry picking. (I have pictures to post but the new blog program has a few bug so I can't post pictures yet. I never should have switched.) We went for a long walk. We walked all over where the berries are, then past that, then back and around the block. Deeds was so tired. She laid around the rest of the day. After lunch, we took a drive around. We went past the mine and smelter and then past the schools and then out to Baker's Narrows. We walked up the Scenic Tower. It was quite a view. (Again, I have pictures I will post as soon as I can. Grrr, stupid Blogger Beta.) Then we drove home and Mom and I made pizza for supper while the boys watched the football game. Well, we won the Labour Day game and that's what really matters anyway. But we had a nice evening in spite of that. After a blueberry dessert, we put up the valences over the blinds. It took a bit of work to match and fit everything but it worked out really well. We had to take the stitching out of one the valences so Mark, Mom and I worked on it and got it done. I was sure it was going to take me all week, but with three people, it went a lot faster. Mark would say he was the fastest ripping stitches, but I know better.

Today, Mark had to go to work, I'm sure he wasn't very motivated to go. Mom and Dad had to get some groceries for the rest of their trip so we all went to Extra Food and WalMart to get another curtain rod. So when we got home, they put up the last valence over the dining room window. Then Mark came home for lunch and we all had lunch together. Soon it was time for Mark to go back and not long after, Mom and Dad said they needed to hit the road too. It was hard to say goodbye but I'm so glad they could come. It's nice to showoff where you live and prove that you really are having a good time and are settled. Sometimes I don't think people believe me when I tell them that I like it here. They think that I couldn't because I'm so far North and so far from any family. Well, it's true, I am farther North than before and I am much farther anyway from family than I ever have been. But with the phone, we're as close as we were when we lived in Saskatoon. And Mark and I enjoy each others company and we're making friends quickly. And now that I've joined the choir and Mark is thinking of joining a curling team or doing some kind of sports thing this winter, we'll meet even more people. And family is always welcome to visit (HINT). I guess my point is that a place is what you make of it. And we think it's pretty nice here and to show others what we see is something that makes we feel good.

After my parents left, I went to the jewelery store to apply there (Mark told me they were looking). I guess one of the ladies that works there is also in the choir and she was the one that told Mark about the job. So when I walked in there, she asked me if I was in choir and if I was new in town and why I moved and when I told her that my husband is the shop teacher, she knew right away. I guess it was good that I went right away. It's a casual position but I can always look for something else too. It's kinda neat to see the connection. From jewellery to teaching to choir, it's all a tangled web.
