Merry Christmas - 2018

I just spent the week of Christmas in the Mayan Riveria. My parents were celebrating their 45th wedding anniversary and took me and my family and my sister and her family. Five years ago, they took us to Jamaica. You can check out some of those pictures on previous posts.

The Mayan Riveria is a beautiful area. There are beautiful beaches and lush jungles. The animals are amazing and the people were so friendly and inviting.

These are just a few of my favourite pictures of the trip.

While we were at the resort, we celebrated Christmas. It was kinda weird to have Christmas in shorts but I could get used to it! The resort was decorated in beautiful lights.

There were plenty of amazing plants and animals all over the resort. From peacocks to turtles and parrots to coatis - a type of raccoon.

But there was really nothing better than having a drink beside the pool and watching the kids swim!

We were able to take an excursion to the Mayan ruins of Tulum. It was fascinating to hear the history of the people and how they lived.

The view from Tulum.

Then we were taken to a lagoon to snorkel. We saw so many different types of fish. At one point, I looked down and thought the ground was covered in moving seaweed. But then it became clear that it wasn't seaweed - but thousands of sardines!! It was incredible to swim around and through the huge schools! I wish I had an underwater camera to capture all the images but my memory will have to do.

Then it was time to go to a cenote. We all jumped in and swam around. Then our guide took us through the caves. We got to see bats and all the amazing rock formations.

Before we arrived at the cenote, we participated in a Mayan ceremony. It was amazing to witness.

We spent our last night at a Japanese restaurant. The chef cooked in front of us and put on a great show!! Event he kids liked the food. I was sure we were going to have to hit up the buffet afterward so the kids would have some supper but we all ate our fill - and then some!!

Then it was time to fly home. I hope it doesn't take us another five years to go on another vacation!
