A Minor Setback

Today, I decided to do some laundry. I was just finishing up, putting the last load into the dryer, when I noticed water on the floor of the basement. This isn't the first time this has happened. When we first moved in, anytime we'd drain the sink, it would back up and spill water all over the basement floor. It's not nice water, all black and very stinky. Thank goodness it's not the toilet. That has yet to backup. So we cleaned it up and I did another load of rags (oh Mom, could you get me some more rages?) and guess what...it backed up again. Well, by this time the load in the dryer was done so at least we had more rags to clean up (seriously Mom, we could use a few more). Mark took the snake and I think he got the plug because we put another load in, drained the sink and ran the faucet and nothing happened. It must have been all this rain. It hasn't backed up in a long time. It only did it the first time because the house hadn't been lived in for some time so things get settled in the pipe. So, hopefully it's been fixed and perhaps I'll be more diligent in running water down the sink and doing laundry more often.

We just back from the same place we were yesterday night. She invited me to go blueberry picking. I figured that it would be great. I want to take my visitors blueberry picking and I'd like to know what to look for. All I know is that they are blue. Well, it had been raining in the morning, but I thought it was clearing up some. I was wrong. As we leave, the clouds empty. It rained pretty hard all the way there and we got wet running to there house. So we had some tea and by the time we were finished, the rain had stopped so she and I went berry picking and the guys hung out in the garage. We found a good patch and started picking. The berries are really close to the ground, and small, like chokecherries. We didn't stay our very long. It was so damp and humid that the mosquitoes were having a feast on us, me especially. My head is one big itch. As is my neck and shoulders. I tried to keep my hood up, but those bugs would get in and bite me underneath it. Then they'd get under my glasses so I couldn't squish them and not knock my glasses off. We grabbed a few and then headed back. But at least now I know what to look for. We had another cup of tea and then it was time for us to go. When we got home, Mark put some afterbite on me. It stinks so bad. Burns the nostrils. My nose still hurts. But I'm not so itchy. I really tried hard not to scratch them. They are almost all on my face so I would look hideous if I scratched them. It looks bad enough as it is but as long as I leave them alone, they'll go away.

We have a courtesy car right now. A Dodge Neon. When we bought the truck, there was a small dent in the bumper. So we knew that we'd have to take it in to get it fixed, free of charge of course. Anyway, they have to take it to The Pas and give us a car for as long as it takes. Should be about a week. So we're stuck without a truck and have two cars now. Hope the truck doesn't take too long.

So I guess today has been good and bad. I have clean clothes but the drain backed up. But now it's fixed. I have blueberries but a lot of bites, and I don't know if I even like blueberries, maybe wild ones. And, we are going to have a fixed truck...just not today, or even this week. So I don't know if today is a good day or a bad day yet. It's early yet.
