Sweet Spots
It's been a busy few days. Friday was Mark's birthday and he went out fishing at Athapap. He got back pretty late and empty-handed. Oh well, he said that he still had fun. Saturday started out rainy and miserable. I was teasing Mark that it was strange that there was a day he was going to go fishing. But sure enough, it started clearing up. The football game was about to start so Mark said if the game didn't go very well, we'd go fishing. So we went fishing. Mark had already called some friends from church to see if they wanted to go the next day so as soon as the game went south, Mark called him up again and asked if he wanted to go now. He was in the middle of some yard work so he said come on over. They live on a lake so we took their boat and fished there. We had all four adults and their two kids so it was really crowded. We caught one jack and then later on into the evening we hit the perch hole. There were a lot. And a few pickerel. I had a bite on my line but I thought I lost it. I reeled it in anyway and there was a perch about 2 inches long. I was laughing so hard that he fell on the hook. That would have made a great picture. I took a few of the loons. The water was so warm. It felt like a kiddy pool. So when it got later and colder, the mist off the lake was just beautiful. Driving home was a little tough though. But it was worth it. I got a picture of the moon coming over the trees with the mist and the loons on the river. I really hope it turns out.
We cleaned the fish on the edge of the lake and headed back for a night lunch. Yummy. It was midnight by the time we were finished eating. We didn't think that we'd be gone that long. We had left Dee Dee in the house all day and when we got home, she had left us something. We'll remember after that.
So yesterday we went out to their house again. We brought Dee Dee this time. They have a dog too, or should I say, a horse. I have never seen a dog that big. It's a purebred husky, but it's still a puppy. It doesn't have the big chest and mane that you think of with huskies but it is huge. It comes up to my waist. It played with Dee Dee, it would put her head in it's mouth. It wouldn't bite down or anything. It looked so weird, my dog's head is in the mouth of another dog. But they played together pretty well.
We watched the end of the soccer game and then went fishing. There were just three adults and two kids in the boat this time. A little better. This time we hit the pickerel hole. One of the kids pulled up a four pound pickerel. Everyone was shocked and swore the spot to secrecy. In total, we caught 21 fish between the five of us. 19 pickerel and 2 jack. We speak of this spot to no one. So we went back to the house to cook up the fish. We now have a bag of fish in our fridge, we're going to have the jack tonight and freeze the pickerel. I made a pasta salad to go with the fish. Mmmm.
Well, that's all for now. We're not going fishing today. It's raining fairly hard. Just a relaxing day today, maybe a cleaning day. We could use a day off from fishing. Mark says his arm hurts and I think he's getting a cold. Poor baby!
Besides, the homerun challenge is on tonight and I want to watch it.
