Back to Work

Mark went back to work yesterday...for about two hours. They put in new flooring so they piled all his stuff on tables and desks. He basically cleaned up, found he had no other work to do, and came home. We were getting bored just hanging around the house so we decided to go fishing. We thought we'd try the White Lake boat launch. We just looked at it and there were a lot of logs around so we'd need a paddle in order to get out without destroying the motor. Unfortunately, we don't have a paddle. Fortunately, Dale lives one minute away so we drove up and asked him if we could borrow one of his. After about twenty minutes of visiting, catching up and general hanging out, we finally got around to asking about the paddle. So we drove back to the boat launch. We backed the boat in and discovered that the boat wasn't going in the water, it was simply pushing the mud. And not the nice mud, the rotting, decomposing black muck that stinks like nothing on this earth. So we decided that wasn't going to work. So we returned the paddle, watched the news with the Wrides and then we decided to go rainbow trout fishing. So Dale, Ben, Mark and I jumped in Dale's truck and took off. Now I know what walking through the bush means. On this point, I much like the prairies more. Apparently there was a trail that we were following. Ben saw it right away but I was convinced that I was off the path. Plus I was carrying the fishing poles which by definition are designed to catch on things. Usually of the fish variety but not limited to it. Talk about a learning experience.

I learned that:
poles like to and often do, catch on trees.
walking on a cattle path is insanely easier than walking on some "path" in the bush.
ants can grow to unbelievable sizes if allowed.
a loon can sound like an elk, a moose and a murder victim, all at the same time.
one can snag their line in the same spot more than once, or twice.
with enough force, it is possible to break the pole and leave the line in tact securely attached to that stupid snag.

Yep, I snagged on this one spot over and over and could not get loose so Mark had to help me, again. Well, he was pulling and pulling and SNAP! There went my pole. Bye bye pole. It was not my day. My first cast of the evening was a snag. We kept the reel so all we have to buy is the rod now. At least we got something out of it. So not too long after, we decided to pack up. No one had gotten so much as a nibble. Although we did see some fish jumping not too far from our casts. Stupid fish.

Mark says he's going to work today, but it's almost noon and he's not gone yet. Maybe this afternoon. We'll see.
