Fish 'n Rocks!
Yesterday Mark got me out of bed to go rock picking. We picked out the big ones and put them in boxes. Mark had made a siv to separate the dirt from the rocks but it was too wet out for it to work, maybe today. So we decided to go fishing instead. We went to Naosap again. The motor wouldn't start right away. It is really reliable, it always start on the first tug. But it has been sitting for over a week. Well, it started anyway and off we went. It started off a little disappointing, we caught a few little jacks but nothing else. We went around to different places and finally came back to our favourite spot. We were getting quite a few bites and Mark said that they must be perch because they were just nibbling. Then, another boat drives up and drops anchor. Usually we never see any boats out here so to see another and have it come so close was strange. Maybe I should stop naming the lakes we go, I think I may have a spy. Anyway, they weren't catching anything either so we didn't feel too bad. We decided we should get going pretty soon. Then, Mark got a bite. He thought it was another jack by the way it hit and fought but when he pulled it closer, we could see that it was a perch, a 12 inch perch. Before this, we didn't know they could get so big, we had only seen 5-6 inch perch before and that was the biggest. So we decided that was enough to make the trip worth it and we filleted him and drove home. He was delicious.
It was still early enough when we finished and I had been putting off making muffins for the last few days so I decided to do just that. I made them bigger this time and cut out some of the flour and I think it worked. They were so big and round, they looked like store muffins, I was so proud. So I had a muffin for breakfast.
So today, we have some picking to do...rock and blueberry. I think it's dry enough for both. I got a brochure in the mail for the Province on how to deal with bears if you ever come across one. Nothing I didn't really know before, but it's good to know the right information. Not like I'll ever meet one anyway. Wish us luck!

So what does the brochure say about how to deal with bears? Can you share your new found wisdom (not that I find many bears in Winnipeg) :)
